OMENANA DEFENDERS
“from Jacob we sprout
at sinai we were forged”
Omenana Defenders is a coalition of Igbo elders, scholars, theologians, and activists dedicated to preserving and teaching authentic Igbo culture in all its aspects: language, spirituality, history.
Unify the Igbo diaspora
The Igbo of Nigeria are the largest ethnic group trafficked to the Americas during the Trans-Atlantic slave trade. On the plantations of the Caribbean and American south, tribal lines dissolved and enslaved Igbos forged relationships and built families with other tribal nations.
It is our stance that every African-American, Caribbean and many South Americans whose ancestors were victims of the slave trade, have a legitimate claim to Igbo ancestry. These, and Igbos who have settled all over the world in recent times are comprise an Igbo-Hebrew Diaspora over 50 million strong.
defend the culture
Omenana Defenders preserve and promote the Hebraic roots of Ndi Igbo (Igbo people), and assert with certainty that Torah, Ancient Israelite culture and Omenana are one in the same.
build community
A well developed Ala-Igbo (Igboland) and flourishing Igbo Diasporas in all aspects of society including Education, Economy, Culture and Arts, Religion and Health is our vision.
We accomplish this by initiating our Obodo (community) into the all encompassing doctrines of Ome Na Ana. Defined as "What is done in the land," Omenana is identical to Ancient Israelite culture and specifically then Laws and Commands given to the Israelites by Moshe and recorded as recorded in Torah.
“Igbos are […] Israelites, in every sense of the word, and also their priestly and Levite lineages should be upheld as valid.”
— Dayan Yehonatan Elazar-DeMota
